2019 Summer Swim Meet Volunteer Intentions
Many volunteers are needed to run a swim meet. Each club is asked to provide volunteers whether they are hosting or not so consider donating your time to a morning or afternoon session on the pool deck! We are one of only a few summer swim teams that use an indoor pool and are therefore unable to host a meet. Hosting is a great deal of work and effort for parent volunteers, with other teams, so we try to contribute as many volunteers as we can to help support their efforts. After all, our athletes have the opportunity to attend all of the meets each year, so this is the least we can do!
The Cole Harbour Hurricanes request that each family have at least one family member who secures certification as a Timer. In order to become a certified Timer, you must attend a Level 1 Official Clinic: Intro to Swimming & Safety Marshall. This takes less than an hour. If you choose to, after you become familiar and comfortable as a Timer, you can progress onto other positions such as Chief Timer, Stroke and Turn Judge, Starter, Recorder and Referee. Clinics to gain official certifications are held periodically by Swim Nova Scotia or the various swim teams and are free of charge. Notices of clinics will be circulated to all families.
It is always rewarding to get involved and as an added bonus, you get a great view of your swimmers! We encourage you to talk to other parents who act as Timers and other officials. You will find they have fun, learn more about the swim meet and get to support their athletes by being involved.
